Dear friends, I hope this finds you well and looking forward to many good things. After a quiet spell, I thought I’d catch you up. It’s been quite a year for me - for you - and for the world. I’m celebrating the installation of Hard Rain now on view in the window of the Amazon - Wainwright Building on Mercer Street and Terry Avenue N, in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood. It will there into January 2022. I hope you find a chance to visit it - best seen after dark! I learned so much from doing it. I’m immensely grateful to my brother, Mark Bocek, who helped me with the design and build of the “stage,” the lighting and myriad other things as well as being there every minute devising solutions, painting, adjusting, climbing ladders and supporting me. (You will enjoy checking out his projects at Corvid Guitar Workshop and the black cats!) My kiln arrived at long last in the spring and has been a joy. It does make my workspace hot as a summer day, but the plan is to install a fan to deal with it. It has a vent system for fumes, but as insulated as it is, a kiln is a toasty heater as it climbs up to 2120 degrees. I’ve put up new work from 2021 on my website, so please explore and feel free to tell me your reactions. I’d love it if you shared my work with friends, too! I had a few bumps in the road this year. My favorite black clay body was discontinued because one of the clays is mined out, which meant adjusting to a new clay. And I had a run in with DCIS breast cancer, which was successfully treated.
